At NewLife Counseling Center our mission is to provide comprehensive professional mental health services addressing a broad range of psychological, behavioral, emotional, spiritual, and relationship issues. We provide these services to couples, families and individuals of all ages in the McHenry County area. Our treatment approach can best be described as a direct, results-oriented approach with the goal of finding realistic solutions to the problems that can make life difficult. This approach focuses on finding patterns of behavior that are no longer working effectively, and exploring the past only as it relates to current issues. Professional services offered include: Individual Counseling, Family Therapy, Marriage Counseling, Group Counseling, and Premarital Counseling.

Couples Therapy

Couples will have opportunities to:

  • Learn and improve communication skills
  • Increase awareness of pressures and expectations affecting the relationship
  • Discuss differences and previous arguments without escalation
  • Address conflict, relationship and intimacy problems in a safe and nonjudgemental environment
  • Work towards mutually satisfying solutions

Family Therapy

Families will have opportunities to:

  • Learn about psychological disorders and learn new skills to enable family members to respond appropriately to family
  • members with psychological disorders
  • Address issues that affect the entire family such as divorce or grief
  • Increase awareness of and address unhealthy patterns of behavior within the family
  • Learn parenting skills
  • Resolve family conflicts

Individual Counseling

Individuals will find support for personal issues and needs such as:

  • Depression and anxiety
  • Stress management
  • School and/or work concerns
  • Abuse and trauma
  • Grief and loss
  • Self-Esteem
  • Personal growth
  • Relationship Problems

Premarital Counseling

Premarital couples will have opportunities to:

  • Take a relationship inventory with a trained professional
  • Learn valuable communication skills
  • Set goals for the relationship
  • Build and strengthen a strong foundation for a healty relationship
  • Examine major relationship issues a couple may experience by completing the PREPARE/ENRICH program administered by a trained PREPARE/ENRICH counselor
  • Complete feedback sessions in which the counselor facilitates discussion between the couple based on their
  • PREPARE/ENRICH inventory results

Clinical Supervision

David P. Cook also provides Clinical Supervision for graduate students, therapists wishing to fulfill the requirements for state licensure, and experienced clinicians wishing to obtain Approved Supervisor status through the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. David P. Cook is a Clinical Fellow of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and an AAMFT Approved Supervisor.

Group Counseling

Anxiety and Depression Groups and Self Esteem and Identity groups are offered for high-school aged students. Groups are held intermittently throughout the school year.

Bilingual Counseling Services

All of our counseling services are offered in both English and Spanish.
